Sermon Notes: "Eat the Scroll"
Kickstarting 2025 with Holy Habits for Spiritual Transformation
Well, here we are! Happy New Year! It’s 2025, y’all.
I’ve got my first set of Sermon Notes ready for my Paid Subscribers.
To start this year off right, I wanted to lay a foundation for real spiritual transformation. Not just for our church as a whole, but for every individual member.
That’s why we launched a brand new Collection of messages titled “Holy Habits: Fundamentals for Transformation.”
We’re exploring three transformational habits in this series:
Devotion to God’s Word
Devotion to the Church
Devotion to Prayer and Fasting
Small, consistent actions have the power to transform your year—and change your life!
The first message in this Collection is called “Eat the Scroll” and focuses on our first Holy Habit… Devotion to God’s Word.
Just like in sports, the fundamentals aren’t flashy, but they’re essential. The same is true in our spiritual lives. Steady actions of devotion transform us over time.
As James Clear says in Atomic Habits, “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”
Who you become is determined by your habits.
What Does It Mean to “Eat the Scroll”?
The phrase “Eat the Scroll” might sound unusual, but it’s deeply Biblical.
In Ezekiel, Jeremiah, and Revelation, God tells His prophets to “eat the scroll,” symbolizing the call to internalize His Word.
(I’ve already written two Substack articles on this topic: “8 Simple Ways to Turn Bible Reading into a Holy Habit in 2025” and “Slow Down and Savor Scripture: The Power of Lectio Divina.”)
This message, and this habit, challenges us to devote ourselves to God’s Word so fully that it becomes the foundation of our lives. It’s not just about reading Scripture, it’s about consuming it, letting it sink in, and allowing it to transform us from the inside out.
